South America ESGF data query: missing start/stop date

When you try to search the ESGF data search using SAM-44 instead of EUR-11 (and changing nothing else) the following error appears:

Unsupported ESGF facet or dataset query response received: Missing start / stop date fields.

But I did not even get so far as to enter the dates.
